Is it illegal to sell videogames in the uk before they are released?

If so what laws would the retailer be breaking?
I need links for this answer preferably website addresses though books are also acceptable.
Answer:
Its called piracy and would could go to jail for doing it.
i wouldnt care if it was, what games you got!lol i want games! GAMES!! GAMEEESSSSS!!!! (i'm not joking!)
It is illegal to do that in any country.

It's called piracy...

The makers of the games get nothing out of it so yeah.
Hi Rocky,

This is not necessarily pirating (as mentioned above) but most imported games are released on licence by authorised distributors. They are told when they can start to sell the game.

This is an area of law called intellectual property and to sell even genuine games before the official permitted release date or unathorised sales is a breach of this copyright.

You could be in deep water.

Hope this helps
