Is it illegal to set outside of a bar in a patrol car and wait on someone to drive to follow and give a dui?

Answer:
From what I know that is called entrapment.
no its not illegal
It's not illegal and I hope they do this often. It is however, highly illegal to drive under the influence (DUI)! I support anything to keep someone from driving while under the influence. I do not believe this is entrapment as you imply by your question. It is due diligence in my view. I know a couple of people with very tragic events in their lives caused by drunk drivers.
Nope its call being a smart cop. Most people with DUI came from bars or clubs.
i think so....there's an ammendment right or something...i think
No,I would say that it is instead a sure bet for the officer.
The officer can park his car anywhere he wants to.Anyone can call a cab and go home. They do not need to get into thier car.
You hang yourself and it is very legal.
Why would it be illegal? That's one of the best ways they can stop a drunk driver (other than approaching him/her before they get behind the wheel).
No! We now live in a police state and they can do what they want and you have to live with it.
It's not entrapment, as some people think. If the cop is hiding out where you can not see them and makes you drive while drunk...that's entrapment. It's not for an officer to sit outside of a bar and monitor who's coming out and going behind the wheel of a car.
Its not entrapment, its targeted enforcement, and a good idea.

If the cops took you to the bar, bought you drinks, then let you stumble to your car adn drive.. that would be entrapment...

but, since you went and got drunk of your own free will, then decided to drive drunk of your own free will, you deserve to be pulled over, arrested, tried, and sentenced accordingly...
...it may constitute harassment if the cop is targeting a specific person and waits for them without prior cause, but it will be tricky to prove in court if you are the DUI recipient...
No. It's pretty smart really... if you're staggering to your call and fall along the way you really shouldn't be driving. :)
No...are you serious? Of course an officer can wait to see if intoxicated people are driving home....this would be a good way to protect innocent victims

By the way I see a submitter said its entrapment...this is incorect.

Entrapment is when a police officer makes you do something you don't want to do...so if an officer drags you off the streets and holds a gun to your head and makes you get drunk...throws you the keys to your car to drive home then it is entrapment....just watching a drunk person drive home is not entrapment..the officer did not force the illegal activity.
