Is it illegal to try to get someone to try to get someone to lie to the cops?

This all happened about 6 months ago. I was working for these 2 gas stations. One weekend about $1500.00 went missing. I always thought that it was funny that I was the only one that was actualy taken down to the Police station and questioned because 1: I was at the other gas station that weekend 2: that kind of money had to be taken from the safe and I was not 1 of the people with the safe key and 3: the survelliance tapes went missing and I was not 1 of the 3 people with the keys to the office. At the time I thought that I was being singled out because the cop told me that he thought I did it because I was the only single mom there. I recently found out that 1 of the owners and another employee tried to get another employee to lie and say that she saw me do something that she did not see. I am know wondering if they lied to the cops. Are any of these things actual crimes?
Answer:
Yes , obstruction of Justice
The cops won't be fooled. Just sit tight and the liars will be found out.

Someday soon that "another employee" will have a big complaint about the owner. Then he/she will have that previous knowledge of being asked to lie for the owner. And the previous 'secret' will be revealed.

Wow, this would make a great mini film.
DONT FIND A NEW JOB right away. It will look like you have something to fear or hide. Wait 4 months. then quit, nicely, with 2 weeks notice.
Depends. It is a only a crime to lie to federal agents ( FBI), not your local police agency.

Unless of course, such a lie impedes (any police agency's)criminal investigation, in which case it is Obstruction of Justice.
Filling a false police report is illegal (lying to cops). Have that other girl go and tell the police her employeer tried to coherse her into giving a false statement. Good luck to you on this one. Find a new job sounds like these people are out for you for some reason.
Yes if you can prove it you can sue for slander I think and you can get some money
No cop in his right mind would tell you that you were being questioned because you were a single Mom. If you were at the other gas station the entire weekend, you'd have an airtight alibi and that would be that. There's something you're leaving out.
Yes. Several crimes come to mind: compounding a felony; obstruction of justice; criminal conspiracy; false information; perjury; malicious prosecution; abuse of process--and that's just off the top of my head very early in the morning.
Lying to the police is the same as committing perjury when on trial. You can be charged with obstruction of justice, because you are preventing the police from doing their investigation properly. As for your situation, the police will figure it out....in the mean time I would file a civil suit against the other people involved, you know defamation of reputation,...maybe then they will change their minds and fess up to the truth
Call your local State's Attorney's office and ask for a consultation. They know the laws better than anyone and until you know you have a case, why spend money. Good Luck
its called cohesion and abstuction of justice.
yup thats called framing , and setting you up to take the fall and if they directly prove people lied then they can go to jail along time , plus everyone knows the police can lie to you but you better never lie to them!
Sounds like someone wanted to make you the scapegoat if i was you i would look for another cashier position and yes its illegal to lie to police like that but if they questioned you , they must have belived you the no survalince tapes point towards a manager to me or owner
